training
RPC Telecommunications provide both training material and tailor made training courses to meet clients requirements.

RPC also run Satellite Communications Masterclasses around the world. For the more information on these please click here.

RPC offer training in three main areas:

1. General satellite communications introduction and training (around 5 days):

  • History of satellite communications
  • General principles (spectrum, comms link, link budget)
  • Space segment (payload, launch, orbit mechanics)
  • Ground segment (configuration of earth station, antenna systems)
  • Modulation and multiple access (baseband processing, carrier modulation, multiple access, comparisons)
  • Interference in satellite systems (introduction)
  • Propagation (introduction)
  • Services and networking (data, voice, TV, VSAT)

2. Frequency coordination of satellite networks (around 5 days):

  • ITU radio regulations (API, coordination, notification, regulatory basis)
  • Interference in satellite systems (principles, noise-like interference, TV interference, MSMI carriers)
  • Protection ratios (subjective grade of service, BER objectives, noise/interference budget, ITU-R recs, calculation)
  • Intersystem interference and software (C/I software, underlying equations, link and equipment issues, data preparation and entry, use in a coordination meeting)
  • Intersystem coordination (meeting preparation, coordination steps, summary record)
  • Making ITU filings (how to...)
  • Slot protection programme and methodology (IFIC, processing, objecting)
  • Practical exercise ("role-play" exercise to prepare and conduct a coordination meeting)

3. Secondment to RPC (flexible, typically between 2 and 6 months):

Trainees may spend a period of time at RPC offices where they may work on their regular ITU coordination-based tasks under close supervision and support from RPC staff. Work will be interspersed with informal lectures and tutorials, practical exercises and visits to relevant facilities in the UK (where possible).

A training plan is developed with the client that defines a syllabus based on the clients requirements. Then the syllabus is developed into a training programme with a number of days training to suit the client needs. A price can then be proposed for the training package, depending on the specific requirements of the client.

RPC also provide free satcom training material to Satcom Online.
