OUR EXPERIENCE

 

RPC Telecom has, since its inception in 1993, carried out consulting assignments for a range of clients including APMT, Singapore Telecom, Tongasat, ETISALAT, Thuraya Satellite Communications, DACOM, the European Commission, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, INMARSAT, INTELSAT, EUTELSAT, the government of Vietnam, the UK Radiocommunications Agency and British Sky Broadcasting plc.

Mark Posen, C.Eng. MIEE, Managing Director and Principal Consultant of RPC has been involved in a wide range of satellite and communications projects and continues to undertake the job of Chief Consulting engineer to Tongasat in which role he is responsible for the overall technical development of Tongasat's orbital network filings and operational satellite networks, including frequency co-ordination, system level design, customer technical support and liaison and technical staff recruitment and development; Mark Posen played a major role in the Tongan delegations to WRC-97 and WRC-2000, where he led the development of the Tongan strategy and approach to numerous critical issues. Mark Posen also provides frequency co-ordination support for Singapore Telecom in regard of the ST-1 satellite network and provides technical and regulatory support to ETISALAT (Emirates Telecommunications Corporation) regarding their EMARSAT and Thuraya satellite programmes and to the Government of Vietnam for their VINASAT project.

As a company, RPC Telecommunications has undertaken a wide range of study projects including a study investigating the temporal statistics of interference from L-band mobile terminals into Radioastronomy receivers, a study into the future European strategy for the Global Navigation Satellite System, GNSS-2, and a major study to investigate the market, economics and candidate technical specifications for a possible C-band low-rate data mobile service. RPC Telecom Senior Associates provide ongoing technical support to numerous clients for the technical development and frequency co-ordination of their satellite networks.

Tongasat System Technical Support (for Friendly Islands Satellite Communications Limited) 

As Tongasat's Chief Consulting Engineer Mark Posen continues to provide a day-to-day and comprehensive technical support on all areas of the Tongasat satellite network filings and their co-ordination and development. RPC Telecommunications provides support in filing, co-ordination, customer support and training. Other RPC Telecom consultants also provide support to Tongasat as needed.

Thuraya/ETISALAT Technical Support and Frequency Co-ordination 

RPC Telecommunications' consultants are providing continuing technical support to THURAYA and ETISALAT regarding the technical development and frequency co-ordination of their L-band Personal Communications satellite network and their proposed FSS/BSS satellite networks. RPC played a major role in the THURAYA preparation for, and participation in, the recent series of Region 1 and 3 L-band Multilateral Meetings.

VINASAT Project Technical Support and Frequency Coordination

RPC Telecom continues to provide technical support to the Government of Vietnam for the implementation of its VINASAT satellite project.

Second phase Study of the Areas for Possible European Standardisation of Satellite Personal Communications Networks (for the European Telecommunications Standardisation Institute) 

RPC Telecom provided the services of Mark Posen as the leader of the ETSI Project Team undertaking the second phase review of the standardisation that might be required in Europe for the implementation of the new satellite personal communications networks.

GNSS-2 Strategic Studies 

RPC Telecom played a major role in this study which assisted in the development of the European strategy for GNSS-2 and the options for civil follow-on networks to GPS and GLONASS.

A Study of the Interference Environment in an Inhomogeneous Satellite Orbit 

RPC Telecom was the prime contractor in this study of the problems and possible solutions to the sharing of spectrum in the increasingly crowded GSO, particularly in the light of the inhomogeneous interference environment which arises.

A study of the L-band Interference Environment and Sharing between Terminals in the Mobile Satellite Service and the Radioastronomy Service 

RPC Telecom was the prime contractor in this study which investigated the protection and sharing criteria for the Radioastronomy service and developed a computer model which allowed the temporal and statistical nature of this interference to be investigated.

C-band Data Messaging Study 

RPC Telecom was the prime contractor in this major study for a client in which the market, economics, regulatory aspects, technical and networking options and candidate specifications were developed and evaluated and a draft business plan and economic case produced.

Study of the Implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television in the UK

RPC Telecom has undertaken a comprehensive study of the options available in the UK for the development of digital terrestrial television in the UK in the post-analogue era.
